Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of New Jersey

Welcome!

You have reached the home page of the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of New Jersey.  Welcome!  This site contains information about our organization, a calendar of events, news from the Peace Corps world, and links to Peace Corps related sites.  We hope you will find these pages useful and informational.

Our MorePeaceCorps pool party has been postponed due to anticipated inclement weather.  We'll keep you posted!

Props to Dave Schweidenback.

Dave and Pedals for Progress were were recently highlighted on CNN. Read about Dave and Pedals for Progress at http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/07/23/heroes.schweidenback/

Also, help Dave and P4P!

Pedals for Progress needs 5 minutes of your surfing time!

P4P is competing for the American Express Members Project award, with a cash prize between $100,000 and 1.5 Million!
The 25 most nominated projects will go into a second round of voting to distribute the prizes to the top 5.

Please vote (as many times as you can) and ask anyone you know to help us be in the top 25 by going to the site   http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/6Q3YLV and nominate the P4P project.
The award would go toward the capital fund campaign, which is an important goal for P4P's medium term future.

We already have over 130 votes, we need at least 2,000. This means that we need you to forward this email and ensure that as many people you know are aware of the power of 5 minutes and few clicks for the future of Pedals for Progress.

Most of you have already helped by providing bikes, money and volunteering time. The return over the past 17 years has been to lift out of poverty 115,000 families with the gift of mobility that would have being wasted in a US landfill otherwise.

Vote for P4P on: http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/6Q3YLV

More Peace Corps campaign is announced.  Visit http://www.morepeacecorps.org  for information.

The MorePeaceCorps Campaign is a national outreach and legislative campaign to build broad public support for a reinvigorated Peace Corps – doubled in size and budget by 2011, the 50th anniversary of Peace Corps.

A better Peace Corps means new partnerships with other innovative organizations, major investments in public health, agriculture and education, robust training programs, a stronger Peace Corps Response Team (formerly Crisis Corps), and much more.  It’s about giving an edge to an esteemed institution and trying new things—changing with the times.

How can the Peace Corps become bolder?  More volunteers and resources along with better programs and initiatives will empower the Peace Corps to make a difference around the world and call to action a new generation of leaders in the United States.

Looking for international hosting opportunities?

Contact: Ashley Collins (RPCV from Thailand 2004-2006) from AFS Intercultural Programs (formerly the American Field Service).  AFS is a nonprofit leader in high school student exchange whose mission it is to help build a more just and peaceful world. While AFS is worldwide, our programs are community-based and volunteer-driven. In our community, AFS Volunteers are bringing people from different countries together to increase Intercultural understanding in families, schools, and communities. AFS  is seeking host families for outstanding international exchange students arriving in August.

Hosting with AFS will enrich your family by sharing your daily lives with a young person from another culture and country, introduce a better understanding of the world to your children, and show your part of America to an outstanding young person from another country. It's also an opportunity to have a student from your own Peace Corps service country. Host families open their homes and hearts to students and provide them with a bed, meals, guidance, and support.  Host families also receive the support of local AFS volunteers and regional staff.  Students come with their own spending money and medical coverage and have a desire to participate as active members of their host families, schools, and communities.

If you think you may be interested in this experience or maybe know someone you think would be interested, please contact Ashley at (Acollins@afs.org)
